  • The Roman Catholic parish church of Pamhagen in the village center of the municipality Pamhagen in the district Neusiedl am See in Burgenland is consecrated to the Feast of the Crucifixion and belongs to the Deanship Frauenkirchen. History The parish of Pamhagen existed already before 1380. The predecessor building of today's church, however, was not in the same place but on the vineyard "Kirchenäcker (church farmlands)". In the course of the Second Turkish Siege, this church burnt down. In 1961 its foundations were excavated. The present parish church was built in 1754. It was renovated in 1871 and in 1954 to 1955 followed a reconstruction by Franz Peck with the expansion of the choir. Architecture and equipment The church is a large building with a transept, retracted round apse and a built in front western tower with a bell-shaped spire. In the three-bay Baroque nave is a *)Platzl vault which rests between straps on flat pilasters. The three-aisled gallery on platzl vaults has a put in front parapet. The former altarpiece hangs today on the side wall. It stems from the second half of the 18th century and shows "Heraclius brings the cross back to Jerusalem". The holy water basin dates back to 1755 and is designated "MG". *)(Wikipedia: Sail dome; Also called sail vaults, handkerchief vaults, domical vaults, pendentive domes, Bohemian vaults, or Byzantine domes, this type can be thought of as pendentives that, rather than merely touching each other to form a circular base for a drum or compound dome, smoothly continue their curvature to form the dome itself. The dome gives the impression of a square sail pinned down at each corner and billowing upward. These can also be thought of as saucer domes upon pendentives.

  • This line is run jointly with GYSEV/Raaberbahn. I had wanted to go across the border to Fertoszentmikios but due to engineering work the line was closed and I had to go by subsitute bus.
