  • A building of considerable individual interest as well as major streetscape importance. In many ways the 'jewel in the crown' of Gaskill Street, at least on the northern approach. Located on a major bend, it closes this main entry vista. Its attractive verandahed form dominates the view. Info source, and more, here: www.environment.nsw.gov.au/heritageapp/ViewHeritageItemDe...

  • One of the town's most important buildings. The original Victoria Hotel was built on land here inherited by William Robinson, and hotel built for daughter Eliza and he hsuband Thomas Walsh. Later Boyd built a new two-storey brick building here reminiscent of Victorian filigree, resplendent with verandahs and iron lace work. The Victoria Hotel, it ceased trading in 1966. It became for a time the Canowindra Convalescent Home in 1969 and then Poppy's Guesthouse, and now as The Old Vic Inn. The long street frontage with an outstanding verandah and balcony, set near a slight bend in the road produces great visual interest. • Outstanding building. 20th Century classical revival. Pyramidal roof, simple proportioning and restrained detailing are characteristically Georgian. Also has front porch with round classical columns. Two storeys with single storey extension to one side. Extension set further back and screened by trees. Good planting in front of the main building as well. Period timber picket fence is an outstanding feature in excellent condition. Internally, has air lock with Georgian fanlight. The timber joinery, architraves and skirting boards have original shellac finish. There are six panel doors, with upper four panels forming a cross with original shellac finish. There are also brass finger plates on doors. Georgian style fireplaces and staircases with banister and shellac handrail. Bank counter in situ.
