  • A common species in this rainforest. Usually occasionally seen in the more diverse raniforests up north. At this higher latitude, as many other species are absent, the myrtle ebony and other sub tropical types are much more often seen. Such as the myrtle, Brush Cherry (Syzygium australe). The myrtle ebony and Diospyros australis are the most southerly of the great tribe of Ebonies and Persimmons. There's some 700 species in all continents apart from Antarctica.

  • Lake Conjola sits in the middle of Conjola National Park. It has a population of around 700 and is surrounded by bush. On New Year's Eve day the once pristine bush land was devastated by fire. Very little of the almost 100km lake perimeter was left untouched by the fire.

  • On New Years Eve, fire swept across our little piece of paradise. It took our house and those of 88 of our neighbours. It robbed the bush land of it natural colour and its fauna. It left the landscaped battle scarred, but it did not rob it of its beauty. Even in the face of devastation, Mother Nature does some remarkable things. This is Lake Conjola three and half weeks after the fires.
