  • Geographical coordinates of the taken: 31°1'5"S - 152°41'50"O
  • Male Square-spot Basker, Aethriamanta circumsignata. Dark patch at the base of his wing is his identifying feature. There is a dark brown bar about a third of the way down the hindwing extending out from his body to almost the triangle. The dark orange patch below that bar reaching almost to the trailing edge is his 'square-spot'. In this image, you can see some wing colour extending well out into the wing almost as far as the nodus. Turners Flat, NSW, Australia, December 2014.

  • Female Red Arrow, Rhodothemis lieftincki. Turners Flat, NSW, Australia, December 2014. Her wings shows features characteristic of this species. I used Theischinger and Hawking, The complete guide to dragonflies of Australia. Her forewings have more than 9 antenodal crossveins - those short veins coming off the leading edge between the body and the nodus; I count 12 crossveins on the left and 11 on the right. The triangle has a vein across it. The discoidal field - that area beyond the triangle - starts with 3 rows of cells, followed by 2 rows. Her hindwings have the base of the triangle close to the arculus, and the anal loop is obvious.
