  • Geographical coordinates of the taken: 31°25'41"S - 152°52'2"O
  • Native warm-season annual or short-lived perennial leafy, tufted sedge with erect stems 3-25 cm tall. Leaves blades are narrow, soft, smooth and to 15 cm long. Sheaths are straw-coloured to red-brown. Flowerheads are erect, elongate (occasionally headlike) and 1-15 cm long; they have few branches and clusters of 2-5 small, shiny, red-brown to blackish spikelets. Flowers in spring and summer. Found in seasonally moist to wet areas; such as drainage lines in pastures, floodplains, around swamps and in wet heaths; it even grows on drier hillslopes when there are good summer rains. Native biodiversity. An indicator of wet conditions. Most common where pastures are short or open. While it is grazed by cattle and kangaroos, it is of little importance for stock as it is usually a minor component of pastures and produces little bulk.
