The water is always crystal clear and the site is well protected from the North Easterly winds which prevail over summer. The added advantange is that the Zostera and Posidonia seagrass seen here lining the shore is blown to the western side of Wallis Lake leaving the sandy beach here spotlessly white and not unlike Whitehaven Beach in North Queensland in appeal. In the winter as shown in this photograph, of course its likely there will be seagrass accumulation as the prevailing winds are from the south and west. Wallis Lake is home to Australias largest Sydney Rock Oyster growing industry and as a result of a program of rigorous water quality testing by oyster growers the industry claims the mantle of Australia;s most pristine inland marine environment. The water here along Wallis Lake's eastern shore is usually only as deep as waist high as far out as 300-400 metres making it a paradise for young children. A note of caution however is worth making here as children on inflatable surf craft have been known to have been blown to the other side of the lake in high winds. A sailing club operates from here in summer and autumn and the area is also favoured by wind surfers, stand up paddle boarders and kayakers. The eastern shore of Wallis lake here is but a few hundred metres from the sea and Seven Mile Beach with the Lakes Way Road running between Wallis Lake and the sea. All along this eastern shore of Wallis Lake from the village of Green Point to Pacific Palms photographers have countless opportunities for tranquil, idyllic photos not to mention sunrise and sunset photography. The Livistona australis - Cabbage Palm and Melaleuca quinquenervia - Tea Tree forest which lines the lake shore indeed gives this shore the feel of a tropical paradise. Other favourite places to visit along this eastern shore include Green Point Fishing Boat Mooring area, Tiona, The Green Cathedral, Booti Point, Sunset Point (Sunset Photography) and Pacific Palms Recreational Club.

  • © All Rights Reserved - Black Diamond Images The National Parks and Wildlife Service has recently (November 2018) laid new Sir Walter Buffalo Turf in front of the Sailing Club Building which now means the previous road that ran on the northern side of the large shelter turning left to run along the foreshore now no longer exists. Visitors are now routed via a new road around the back of the #SailingClub House to lake side parking to the south. I suspect this new road with its narrow 90 degree corner may cause some congestion and potentially, minor vehicle accidents during peak season. The unfortunate thing is that National Parks do not appear to have a replanting plan to replace these trees on the Lake Shore. Most of the existing trees are old and as can be seen many are leaning over. At some stage, before too many more years, a faceless bureaucrat will commission an arborist's report on the trees which will result their removal. What ambience remains in this beautiful place will be severely reduced, if not destroyed, an outcome, National Parks ought to be mindful of and be pro-actively acting to avoid such a scenario. #Forster

  • © All Rights Reserved - Black Diamond Images The #SailingClub, just south of #Forster is indeed a paradise for swimmers in summer, particularly for young children. With knee to hip deep shallow crystal clear water and a pure white sandy lake bottom extending hundreds of metres out into the lake the Sailing Club is a mecca for families in summer. Glistening white sand beaches line the shore under the many old Melaleuca quinquenervia trees whose branches extend gracefully out over the lakes edges. These trees offer a playground for young and old who either climb all over them, use them for shade or simply use them as a background for selfie photographs, not to mention the wonderful lakeside ambience they provide. The Sailing club here in Booti Booti National Park is as close to Queensland's iconic Whitehaven Beach experience as one can get in the south of the East Coast of Australia.
