  • Most of what I saw there today was young. At most immature or even juvenile. These are distinctly differently marked facially than the adults.

  • This bird is way out of its normal range. It would be easy to speculate that it is an aviary escapee; and it may be. However it is not a normal looking domestic budgie. It is not closed rung as a very high proportion would be. Secondly most domestically bred budgies are bred from stock utilised for show competition. Such birds have a different conformation than a wild type bird. They have a much larger head and bigger spots. Naturally one so far out of range does have a high chance of being an escapee however. I have checked with a dealer friend not very far from where this bird was seen and was advised that several months ago they got wild type budgies from the Perth zoo and sold them so it is possible that one of their customers lost a bird.
