  • Canning Town Hall located on the corner of Albany Highway and George Street West in Cannington, around 10km south east of the centre of Perth. Although the front of the building reads 1926, this refers to the construction of the two story extension with the original hall behind built in 1909 It served as the original offices for the Canning Roads Districts Board, forerunner to the City of Canning. Canning dates back to 1871 when the Canning Roads Districts Board was established which lasted until split in 1907 into the Queen's Park Municipal District and Gosnells Roads District. The Canning name reappeared after the Queen's Park District was renamed following abolition of the nearby Jandakot Roads District. The area was declared a Shire in 1961, then a Town in 1971 before finally proclaimed a City in 1979. The old Shire council's original offices were in the Town Hall which by the the 1950s had outgrown the building and constructed a single story extension with terracotta tiled roof on the eastern side of the building which still stands today Having outgrown the Town Hall site, a new administration centre was constructed in the early 1970s at the time of the proclamation of the Town of Canning. This was ultimately replaced in turn by the current administration building on Albany Highway opened in July 2006 and the 1970s building demolished. The Town Hall building has been refurbished in recent years and is used by community groups as well as by the City of Canning for office space, notably for training sessions.
