Donjon Ter Heyden Ter Heyden Tower Alhoewel de toren het uitzicht heeft van een verdedigingstoren, werd ze vermoedelijk rond 1350 gebouwd als “woontoren” of “meester-toren”. Een statussymbool, want de eigenaar werd toen tot drossaard van Brabant benoemd. Enig aan deze toren is het grondplan dat de vorm aanneemt van een Grieks kruis (uniek in de wereld!). De toren is 30 m hoog en telt 6 niveaus, waarvan kelder en ontvangstruimte overkluisd zijn door een stenen tongewelf. De 6 niveaus zijn onderling verbonden door een stenen wenteltrap. De toren zelf staat op een witstenen basis in het water en werd verder opgetrokken in baksteen met speklagen ijzerzandsteen. In 1619 verwierf de adellijke familie uit Eynatten de eigendom van deze site. Ze herbouwde de toren volgens de oorspronkelijk plannen met uitzondering van de weergang die vervangen werd door een dak met een peertorentje. In 1631 bouwde de Eynatten het fraaie landhuis in Vlaamse renaissancestijl. In 1870 werd het complex uitgebreid om er bier in te kunnen brouwen. Sinds 1870 werd er gebrouwd door de familie Smedts, die het eigendom van deze site in 1909 verwierf. Ze stopten in 1938 hun activiteiten in Rotselaar en brouwden verder tot in 1993 in Kampenhout. De mooi gemetselde schoorsteen is er nog een stille getuige van. Het complex werd als monument beschermd sinds 1942 met een grondige restauratie van de toren in 1948. Tegenwoordig is het hele eigendom in handen van een privé-eigenaar. Tijdens de Open Monumentendag in september 2011 lokte deze historische site meer dan 1.000 bezoekers. Although the tower has the view of a defense tower, it became they probably built around 1350 as "residential tower" or "master tower". A status symbol, because the owner was then appointed as the throne of Brabant. The only thing about this tower is the ground plan that takes the form of a Greek cross (unique in the world!). The tower is 30 meters high and has 6 levels, of which cellar and reception area are covered by a stone barrel vault. The 6 levels are interconnected by a stone spiral staircase. The tower itself stands on a white stone base in the water and was further built in brick with bacon layers of iron sandstone. In 1619, the noble family from Eynatten acquired ownership of this site. She rebuilt the tower according to the original plans with the exception of the recess that was replaced by a roof with a pear tower. In 1631 the Eynatten built the beautiful country house in Flemish Renaissance style. In 1870 the complex was expanded to brew beer. Since 1870, there was brewed by the Smedts family, which acquired the ownership of this site in 1909. They stopped their activities in Rotselaar in 1938 and continued to brew in Kampenhout until 1993. The beautiful masonry chimney is still a silent witness of it. The complex was protected as a monument since 1942 with a thorough restoration of the tower in 1948. Today, the entire property is owned by a private owner. During the Open Monument Day in September 2011, this historic site attracted more than 1,000 visitors.
