  • Also in Bad Ragaz there is still an old Karrensignal (cart signal). Hidden behind an electricity pylon at the end of the station towards Chur, I had never noticed it. The signal is out of service. It comes from the time when there were no underpasses and luggage trolleys were used to go onto the platforms. The sign is transverse to the tracks and only for instructed station staff at a special track crossing for luggage transport. When the 'K' lights up, crossing the tracks is allowed with caution. Shunting traffic with a max. speed of 40 km/h is possible. Before the signal changes it is flashing. A dark signal means 'Stop'. Switzerland, Feb 13, 2020. A video of such a signal that is still in operation.

  • Feel like, I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! You can rest assured, there are no eating trials. The cook is OK. The prices and opening hours are also normal, except on Thursdays where live music starts at 20:00 there is a little surcharge. It is a tradition in Eastern Switzerland that is slowly dying out. This decorations of the restaurants during carnival. In other places often combined with lightly dressed girls as waitresses who are specially engaged for this. Of course with corresponding prices and geared to the evening hours. Switzerland, Feb 3, 2020. (1/2)

  • At this place just a few meters after the bridge across the Tamina, once stood the old customs house in Bad Ragaz. The small remnant of a wall in the meadow on the left is all that's remaining of it. As early as 1515, a handling of goods place with a warehouse was built for hemmers. It was the only access to Graubünden across the Tamina. The customs house was built in 1595. At the end of 1971, it was demolished in a not entirely legal action. This information comes from an ancient inhabitant nearby. Today's paths after the bridge no longer correspond to the time when the customs house was in operation. A part of the beautiful wood paneling from the ceiling in the former customs room is still kept in the Grand Resort. The Grand Resort has also a restaurant called Zollstube (Customs Room). But that doesn't make it any better. The over 400 years old building has been lost for ever. At the next sculpture exhibition in 2021, maybe you see this masonry and know then what it is. • These houses at the «Kronenplatz» in Bad Ragaz are around 300 years old. In the middle there is the pharmacy, where I photographed the double cellars (Bad Ragaz Underground). The pharmacy exits since 175 years, but was smaller in earlier times. On the left was once the restaurant St.Gallerhof, where a part on the ground floor became the cosmetics department. The rest, a former clothing store, is currently empty. And on the right, a part of today's pharmacy was a hat shop. The other shops are also empty on that side. A sign of the times. That's why I couldn't see yet the other basements. At the Fortuna house further up there are also double cellars. It is currently being rebuild and there's no more historical to see. Empty shops can be observed also in smaller towns. Not only in larger cities where rents are expensive. The situation here would be very good in relation to passers-by. Other small shops in hidden alleys are in a more difficult situation. There are only a few parking spaces in the village center, but a large public underground carpark. But people have become sluggardly and always want to park their car in front of a store. That was also the reason why I couldn't take this photo for a long time. There were always cars in front of the pharmacy when I was there, although it is forbidden. Or the sun position was not favourable, or people were walking through the picture... never give up.
