  • Attis marble 2nd century Roman Theatre The goddess Cybele fell in love with the Phrygian shepherd Attis. His cult became popular in Rome and annual festivals were held in his honour. he became a symbol of regeneration and he is often found on funerary monuments. This seems to me to have a wonderfully contemporary feel to it.
