  • Hopefully ma wee pals don't mind me posting this, I trust they'll tell me if they do. Anyway, I shot this last year at their lovely wedding and have held onto it since. I came across it recently and felt like it was scenic enough to put into my repertoire. Let me know down in the comments if you agree/disagree. 5D II + 85L II

Friarstown Chapel
Friarstown Chapel

  • This chapel set near Lough Conn in Mayo is interesting. It could have been a normal parish church but is in an area called Friarstown. It lies half way between the Dominican priories at Rathfran and Straide but is close also to the Franciscan communities at Rosserk and Moyne. I would favour the half-way house theory in the absence of proper information and on the basis that the Dominicans had a foundation in a place called Knockmore. John Burke said it was in County Sligo and I could not find that one at first. I stumbled upon this place when I was looking for the Dominican site at Knockmore in Sligo. I could not find a Knockmore in Sligo as it is an uninhabited townland. It lies west of the road from Kilmactranny and Cuiltaboulia. I will post photos of it soon with its story. So, after all that, I have no idea who owned this church but I would guess that it was staffed out of the Dominican priory in Straide.
