  • The Saint Patrick's Cathedral in its current form was built between 1191 and 1270 in the Early English Gothic style. The church was rededicated in 1254, but the Lady Chapel was added only around 1270. It is a curiosity going back to English colonial rule over Ireland that predominantly Catholic Dublin has two Anglican cathedrals. St. Patrick's is not the seat of a bishop, as the Archbishop of Dublin has his seat in Christ Church Cathedral. Since 1870, the Anglican Church of Ireland has designated St Patrick's as the national cathedral for the whole of Ireland.
