  • I stumbled across this former church, now a house, while looking for the access road to Loughcrew, the highest point in Co. Meath, near Oldcastle. It started out life as St. Kieran's Church of Ireland, Loughcrew parish (1843), built to replace an earlier medieval church associated with St. Oliver Plunkett on the Napier estate. The chancel was rebuilt in 1904. The church was closed and de-consecrated around 1998 and was sold four times between then and 2006, when it was acquired by its current owners. In 2007 Paul Arnold Architects in Dublin were engaged to consider how the building could be converted and extended into a private dwelling, and the project was completed in 2009. The graveyard is separated from the building (it's located just beond the trees on the right of this shot) so it's still possible to visit this without entering the property.
