  • Ballyness Bay, Falcarragh overlooking Magheroarty Sand Dunes with 'Tory Island' in the far distance, County Donegal, Ireland On the final stretch of road to ‘Ballyness Bay’ can be found this scene which overlooks many islands & strands along Donegal’s northern shore. Ireland has many stunning roads & viewpoints but there’s something special about the road to ‘Ballyness Bay’ that strikes excitement in me during approach. It’s possibly because there's so many locations, details & views that can be observed from one small area. There's always a sea breeze here which carries the most memorable sounds & smells, especially on warm summer days. What always amazes me is the fact that ‘Tory Island’ (furthest seen on horizon) is 9 miles away from where this photo was captured, yet along this coast it only looks a couple mile or so off. The island between to the left is ‘Inishdooey’. The sand dunes on the left are ‘Magheroarty Strand’ & the dunes to the right are ‘Ballyness Strand’. Hope you enjoy! • Ballyness Bay, Falcarragh, County Donegal, Ireland My favorite movie of all time is ‘The Field’ by Jim Sheridan. I have grown up watching this masterpiece at least 100 times! It’s about a small field that was once barren rock but past generations of one man’s family worked their entire lives away on it. Through the ‘Great Famine’ & years of poverty they carried baskets of seaweed for miles each day to soil/fertilize the ground & finally break it into a green pasture amongst the surrounding rugged landscape. This lush green field was then passed down to each son with pride on their accomplishment. 🎥 Movie Quote by the Bull McCabe: “It's my field. It's my child. I nursed it. I nourished it. I dug the rocks out of it with my bare hands and I made a living thing of it” When flying over this area my heart skipped a beat to see this amazing green field (Island) amongst these rocks, sand & seaweed! My mind is telling me that this has to have a similar story to the actual movie. Only this field is not staged or set up solely for filming purposes. As you can see, it’s an actual real place with real history tied to it. I’m presuming its small patches of loved land throughout Ireland like this, which supplied the original inspiration to write the movie script. If any directors out there were ever thinking of remaking the 1990 movie "the field" then there is no better suited location than this little green island in Donegal 💚 Hope you enjoy! • Falcarragh, County Donegal, Ireland Ballyness Bay is an area of outstanding natural beauty created by many rivers leading to our Atlantic ocean. This estuary holds some of the strongest turquoise waters & sandy beaches found throughout Ireland. Its waters are as clear as glass due to the purity of the fresh water rivers that run through this bay. So pure that I was able to stand on an old wooden jetty & gaze straight through the surface to still see the sea bed in at least 30ft depth of water! Whilst standing here trying to capture the suns last rays, I heard splashes from below the jetty? Suddenly 2 extremely curious sea-lions emerged mere feet from where I was standing! They circled around me then just floated idle with their heads bobbing up & down on the current for the remainder of my stay. They created another lasting memory that will stay with me always 🙏 To the right of this photo is Magheroarty Beach & sand dunes. In the distant horizon can be seen Errigal Mountain on the left, Dooish Mountain in the centre & Tievealehid Mountain on the right. As you can see from my photo this landscape speaks for itself with its sheer number of sandy beaches, mountains & islands all along this north Donegal shore. I love this coast so dearly 💚 Hope you enjoy! Please Favourite & Follow to view my newest upcoming works, Thank you Facebook | Website | Instagram

• A visit to the Denis Tynan collection today and to representatives of the beautiful fishing town of Killybegs. The benefits of having a marching band in a town are many and varied, keeping young people active, developing an appreciation of music, giving essential life skills etc. This band must have been a colourful group and certainly seem happy in their role! Niall McAuley clarifies that, while from Killybegs, this image was taken in Falcarragh - at the Easter parade there. Seemingly Falcarragh still hosts visiting bands and musicians at their annual summer festival. Whether any still make the 100km journey from Killybegs is perhaps a question best answered locally (as is where more specifically "by the crossroads" this image was captured).....
