  • This was a hard one - I don't know why - perhaps too much detail. I worked on it on and off over several days until I had the balance I wanted. I was torn between a watercolour and a traditional oils look. In the end the watercolour won out.

  • I took the bus to Porirua again this afternoon, to take a sample to the lab. Then I went to Pete's Emporium and bought some clear curtain heading tape, some curtain hooks and some pipe cleaners for a crochet project I want to try. I went to Liquorland and bought brandy to make an apricot brandy cake for our midwinter Christmas - I can eat fruit cake again now. Then I went to Mitre 10 to look at their kitchen units. I've looked on their website but seeing the colours for real is better and I wanted to see how high the oven would be if I bought the oven tower. I had a good chat with the woman who works in the kitchen section and took home a couple of samples for the colours I want for units and benchtops. Thursday, 21st May 2020.

  • My first hot cross bun for four years. My surgeon told me that I can 'now eat anything except very spicy or very oily food'. I was going to wait until three months after the operation, and I may still do so for some foods. But I figured that there were probably not very many currants in a hot cross bun so it would be a safe place to start. It was delicious and it caused me no problems. Wednesday, 15th April 2020.

  • Another concert, a different location. This one was at Aotea Lagoon. They have concerts from Friday to Monday over Wellington Anniversary weekend. Tonight's band was called Mojo. They played music from the sixties to the present day and lots of people were dancing. A nice evening. Saturday, 18th January 2020.

  • Keep your distance on the bus. I had an adventure today. Well, that's how it felt. The furtherst I had been on my own since coming out of hospital was to the pharmacy 200 metres away. Other than that I have not been out on my own since late February and that was only to travel to and from hospital, either by ambulance or car. Today I had to go to the lab in Porirua (a few kilometres from home). So I got the bus there, queued to have blood taken, walked around the corner to the supermarket, joined a short queue and went in followed the one way system around the shop. Then I went to the bus stop outside the supermarket and waited for a bus. When it arrived it did not stop but the driver pointed down the road. Despite the shelter and seats being there AND a ther still being a sign saying 'bus stop' the buses were not stopping there but at a stop 100 metres away. I was not impressed. I walked to the stop 100 metres away hoping that I would not have to wait an hour for the next bus. There are two routes that will get me home, both hourly (we are on Sunday services at the moment) and they run within a few minutes of each other. Just as I got to the stop another bus arrived. I was the only passenger and the lovely driver got my shopping bags off the bus for me when I got to my stop. I probably look like an old lady and she felt sorry for me! At the supermarket checkout I was asked if I had a Gold Card (discount card for 65+ year olds). Not surprisingly, I was very tired this afternoon. Wednesday, 15th April 2020.
