  • This was the last train I filmed before heading home. Exactly 20 minutes after 9348 and 9170 passed by with train 334, we now see the very first DL passing the playground with train 483 - Kinlieth to Mount Maunganui. This was the third day in a row that 9008 had run the 482/483 turn to Kinlieth and back.

  • At 2:53pm on June 14th - we see 9262 passing Kulim Park with train 390 - the Palmerston North to Tauranga service. I didn't notice until very recently that the line actually goes downhill when it passes Kulim Park. This is especially noticeable when looking at the track from the playground.

  • 15 minutes after DL 9262 arrived with Train 390 - at 3:08pm - along came this lot. In this footage we see DL's 9348 and 9170 passing Kulim Park with Train 334 - the Mount Maunganui to Westfield service. This was one of the semi-rare occasions were some kids from the playground ran up to the fence, which is why the driver blasted the horn.

  • It seems that every single motor vehicle in the area (including a plane that was flying overhead) decided to make as much noise as they could while I was filming. Anyway, this was filmed on Wednesday the 11th of June. Here we see DL 9360 passing through the centre of Tauranga with Train 482 - Mount Maunganui to Kinlieth. For some reason this run of 482 only had 12 wagons in the consisted, and only two of them were log wagons. Normally 482 is at least three times the length you see here.

  • The 5th of June was one of those days when the rain was really chucking down. While on my way to Greerton, I did the usual thing and pop over to The Strand in case anything interesting showed up. This time we see DL 9613 passing by with Train 482 - the Mount Maunganui to Kinlieth service. Unusually, this particular working didn't have any JT class newsprint wagons. Instead the whole consist was empty log wagons.

  • Once again I find myself in the presence of DL 9636. I'm starting to get bored of this locomotive. Anyway, this time we see her passing The Strand with train 482 - the mid-morning Mount Maunganui to Kinlieth service.

  • Sitting by the drop-off zone at Pillans Point School. Interestingly, this was the first school I went to - from February 2006 to December 2011. It appears that 180 has parallel-parked in the wrong place. Two days after taking this picture, I saw 180 again on Wharf Street in the Tauranga CBD. The bus must have been on another charter run.

  • Just over 2 hours after seeing DL 9285 at Mount Maunganui, I ended up on The Strand again. This time we see DL 9331 (with 9285 along for the ride) passing through town with Train 334 - the afternoon Mount Maunganui to Westfield service. I always like seeing 334, because it always seems to have a good variety of wagons in the consist.

  • Rolling slowly along Bureta Road with an afternoon school run, which - I think - caters for Aquinas College students. This is one of the buses that was brought over from Hamilton in September 2017, and helped run the Bayhopper services up until December 2018. At the time of uploading, GoBus are still using quite a few of these ex-Bayhopper buses in Tauranga - but only on school runs.

  • This was filmed at 19:47 hours on Friday the 14th of June. Normally I don't like to go out and film trains at night. This is due to the less-than-desirable lighting. Tonight was an exception, as I found out that DXB 5074 was going to run Train MP10 from Tauranga to Auckland, after spending several hours at Mount Maunganui. Here we see the DXB passing the Maxwells Road level crossing with MP10, shortly after leaving the Sulphur Point sidings. Fortunately there's a streetlight right next to this crossing.

  • Time for another compilation of rail activity in the Tauranga area. On this occasion, I decided to head to Kulim Park again, during a period that I call 'The Evening Rush'. This is the 2 hour block between 15:00 and 17:00 hours when the East Coast Main Trunk has one of its busier periods. Today I ended up seeing five trains at Kulim Park. Unsurprisingly, all of them were hauled by DL's.
