  • British Car Museum Te Awanga Hawke's Bay New Zealand. For my video; youtu.be/I7ok8iohLSM The Morris Marina was a popular car on the New Zealand market, imported by the New Zealand Motor Corporation. Imports began with built-up British-sourced saloons and coupes (in 1.3- and 1.8-litre forms) in 1971. Local assembly of Australian-sourced (E-Series engines) models began in 1972 after the release of the Marinas there. Six-cylinder models were added in 1973. In 1974, before the termination of Leyland Australia's manufacturing operations, local assembly switched to British-sourced models again in saloon, estate, van and pick-up forms. Batches of fully built UK-sourced cars also came in 1973 and 1974 when the government allowed additional import licences due to the inability of local assembly plants to keep pace with demand for new cars. In 1979 the Marina received a face lift and the BL O-Series OHC 1.7-litre engine. However, at the time the Marina name was held in low regard by the New Zealand public, and was dropped, the car being renamed Morris 1700. The Morris 1700 had high equipment levels and included front spoilers and driving lights on all models. The related van and pick-up models were renamed Morris 575. Production of the car ceased in 1981. It was replaced locally by an expanded range of NZMC Honda products.

  • Maraetotara River mouth, Te Awanga, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand Yesterday morning was the first chance that I have had to shoot the core of the Milky Way in the current 'astro season' ( which in New Zealand is from February until October ) so I headed to one of my favourite spots to shoot. This was also the first chance I have had to use my 9mm Laowa lens for astrophotography, and I was pretty happy with the results. There are 4 planets visible in this shot; the brightest near the horizon is Venus, and in order is it also possible to see Pluto ( still a planet in my book ), Saturn and Jupiter ( which is visible on the edge of the Milky Way ). Luckily it doesn't happen to me very often, and when it does it is normally Liz ( www.flickr.com/photos/132547510@N02 ) that is the other photographer, so I just use her as part of the composition. • British Car Museum, Te Awanga, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand Mark II (1967–1971) At the end of May 1967, BMC announced the fitting of a larger 1275 cc engine to the MG, Riley Kestrel, Vanden Plas and Wolseley variants. The new car combined the 1275 cc engine block already familiar to drivers of newer Mini Cooper and Austin-Healey Sprite models with the 1100 transmission, its gear ratios remaining unchanged for the larger engine, but the final-drive being significantly more highly geared. • British Car Museum Te Awanga Hawke's Bay New Zealand. Europa was a New Zealand-owned oil company that was operated by the Todd family in New Zealand, in competition with overseas firms such as Texaco (now Caltex in NZ), Plume (now Mobil), Shell (now Z Energy) and Atlantic (now Mobil). Starting in Dunedin (where the Todd family was based), in 1931 Charles Todd decided to import his own petrol. From 1933 the Europa brand of cheap imported petrol from the Soviet Union was sold through a chain of service stations across the country, in association with the New Zealand Farmer's Union and various regional Automobile Associations. Because of price undercutting by the overseas firms, the government introduced regulation of petrol prices from 1933. In the early sixties the company was fined a large sum in a Transfer pricing scandal. In 1972 British Petroleum NZ acquired a 60% interest in the company. During this time, the company produced what was an award-winning television advert that featured American rock legend Stevie Ray Vaughan and New Zealand Blues legend Midge Marsden as part of the "Travellin' On" television adverts. The television adverts were shot mainly around the Central North Island of New Zealand during 1988. This would be the last major television advert used until 1989 when the Europa brand was replaced with the BP shield. For my video; youtu.be/I7ok8iohLSM
