  • The Standard Motor Company was established in the UK in 1903 producing cars and the Ferguson tractor. It purchased Triumph in 1945, from 1959-63 was known as Standard Triumph. Purchased by Leyland Motors in 1960, which became British Leyland in 1968. Standard Cars were also built in Australia by Eclipse Motors of Melbourne from CKD kits. By the end of the War, the Standard 8, Vanguard, Spacemaster and the Triumph Mayflower were built there. Eclipse Motors became the Standard Motor Company in 1952 and from 1958; Australian Motor Industries (AMI) The new Phase III Vanguard was built from 1956-61. Available in Saloon, Wagon and in Australia, a Utility. 1956; solid bar through the grille, the base model in Australia was the Spacemaster, in the UK; the Ensign with a mesh grille. An upmarket model was available, the Sportsman with tuned 90hp engine from the Triumph TR3 and a squarer grille like an MG . 1957; Australian Vanguards got an update; a mesh grille like the Ensign and fins on the rear qtrs. 1958; Instead of a Phase IV, the next model was the Vignale, new grille, horizontal chrome bars, more complex stainless steel side strips, two tone paint. In 1960, shepherds crook shape stainless steel side strips . In 1961, the 6 cyl introduced, with Six badge on the bonnet In 1963, stainless steel strip now continues right to the front of the guard, Vanguard letters spread right out on the bonnet.   • Edsel Ford introduced the 'Mercury' in 1939 as a model to fill the gap between the basic Ford V8, and the luxury Lincoln Zephyr. New styling was introduced in 1941, the 'Mercury Eight' name plate was introduced, four inches longer made it a bigger car inside. To lower production costs, the Mercury Eight shared much of its body with the Ford V8. 1941; Bullet shaped parkers. 1942; Rectangular parkers. Building of cars was put on hold over the war years; 1943-45. Lincoln and Mercury were combined into a single Lincoln-Mercury division; while functioning as one division, the two brands kept their separate model lines. They continued building Mercurys in 1946, now with a new grille. 1946; Painted grille surround. 1947; Chrome grille surround, and 'Mercury' on the side of the hood. 1948 Mercury Eights were identical to 1947. Models for 1948 were; the 72 2 door Coupe, the 74 4 door Sedan, the 76 2 door Convertible and the 79 4 door Wagon.   • The Lincoln Motor Company was originally founded in 1917 and since 1922 has been the luxury vehicle division of the American Ford Motor Company. The Lincoln-Zephyr was the smaller Lincoln, built from 1936-1948, Officially designated Series H, the 1936 Lincoln Zephyr was extremely modern for the time, with low raked windscreen and streamlined body, available in two body styles, a 4 door fastback sedan and a 2 door sedan coupe. 1937 saw 2 new body styles added, the 2 door Coupe and the Town Limousine, the only change, some of the grille bars were chrome. 1938 saw a Convertible Coupe and a Convertible Sedan added, new front sheet metal, more integrated fenders and a low profile split horizontal bar grille. In 1939, the hood and fenders were new again, grille bars now vertical 1940, looked similar, but wider and running boards are gone 1941, a more arched roofline, parkers moved up on top of fenders.
