  • With the switching work now complete, L012s power is on the Bradley sub again and backing past the Prentice depot across the diamonds to their train – When they depart they will work eastward 27 miles to Bradley and then enter the WCs Valley sub for another 46 mile run down to their destination of Wausau. – The line on the left with the stored box car was the old Soo Line Spencer to Ashland route, and the same trackage that L012 was on in my previous post, but by now no longer in service south of town (this line was however still intact from Medford down to Spencer as the WCs Medford sub). – And the part that continued to the north here was the WCs Ashland sub. – The date is September 22nd, 2001 – and in another 2-1/2 weeks the Wisconsin Central would be officially swallowed up by the Canadian National. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

  • The crew of Wisconsin Central train L012 has gone to work at Prentice, Wisconsin where there is a bit of switching to be done before heading towards Bradley. – In this shot the power is making a move with a loaded lumber car on some of the remaining trackage here that used to run south of Prentice down through Medford to Spencer. – September 22nd, 2001 ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©

  • The chase is on, back in Feb 2007 one of our weekend goals was to chase an E-Rail across the old Soo Line from Ladysmith to points East. Feb 18th wold be that day. It turned out to be a set of what got termed the SD45 killers as these units rapidly siplaced the WC SD45 fleet after the CN takeover. doesn't matter in this case as it was a chase over the old Soo Line. We started the chase in Ladysmith when the train took the turn off the Superior Mainline and headed East, here engineer Dave Schultz handles the train through a series of hills and valleys that no doubt kept you on your toes with a heavy tac train. The train speed was low which allowed us to shoot like mad men during the chase parallel to WI Hwy 8, Nearing the end of the chase we caught them on the approach to Prentice and finally tying down on the Main just west of the road in Prentice. Oh how I wish we could still chase the E-Rails.

  • This long ago shot was taken by Mike Creeden at Prentice, WI. It seems to me that this was the Tamarack Thunder train trip. Wearing white jeans, a leather jacket, and a C&NW hat, I can't believe I wasn't more lucky with the ladies! LOL

  • back in February 2007 a few of us went in search of the E-Rail trains running across the line from Ladysmith to Prentice. I don't remember why we started in Prentice, maybe just came up through Ashland trying to find something. Either way we stumbled across a meet at Prentice with the IC 6054 and GTW 5945 working to drop cars in the yard/tracks at Prentice for exchange with the other crew. The other crew had IC 6002 and NS 2577, former Conrail unit. We grabbed a few shots of them exchanging cars

  • The November weather appears as bleak at the future of the line north of here. Heck, the whole line west of Bradley must now be on thin ice. Flambea River Papers is heading for the liquidation market and the only active shippers left on the line are Hilgy's in Phillips and Biewer Sawmill in Prentice.
